The world of AI is getting smarter by the day and while Alexa may have been your companion over the past few years, it already has competition. There is a hot new AI assistant in town. Astor, a mid-size SUV is set to be India's First Car with AI Inside. It comes with an in-car personal AI assistant. Astor which goes on sale next month will have Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), but more importantly in the era when most cars come armed with voice commands and such, MG India's Astor will feature the personal assistant which will answer the queries of the owner.

If this wasn't big news, we gasped upon reading Elon Musk's unexpected unveiling of Tesla Bot, a humanoid robot that runs on the same AI as Tesla's fleet of autonomous vehicles. This friendly robot will be 5 ft and 8 inches tall, will be built with lightweight materials, and most importantly will be able to navigate through a world built for humans. The life-size humanoid robot set to make a debut next year, is said to "eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks."

AI is also making leaps in healthcare. Diagnosing dementia is an uphill task as of today but this may change in the very near future. This week's blog post explores how AI has been able to help humanity make big strides in the treatment of dementia. The blog post also speaks about AI-mind, a project dedicated to making AI backed tools to screen the brain for the risk of dementia. Diagnosing dementia in just a day will be possible soon! In fact, a simple line drawing of two children stealing cookies behind their (supposedly) mother's back is being used by an AI system to detect the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

The AI model, developed by IBM Research and Pfizer, has been using the test for many years for diagnosing dementia and other cognitive illnesses. The model asks the respondents to describe what they observe in the picture and then analyses the voice samples of the respondents to predict whether they are healthy or likely to get the disease. It is said that the model can predict with 70% accuracy compared with human doctors about the onset of the disease seven years earlier.

Deb Roy is Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at MIT where he directs the MIT Center for Constructive Communication, and a Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School. He leads research in applied machine learning and human-machine interaction with applications in designing systems for learning and constructive dialogue, and for mapping and analyzing large scale media ecosystems. Deb is also co-founder and Chair of Cortico, a nonprofit social technology company that develops and operates the Local Voices Network to surface underheard voices and bridge divides.

Roy served as Executive Director of the MIT Media Lab from 2019-2021. He was co-founder and CEO of Bluefin Labs, a media analytics company that analyzed the interactions between television and social media at scale. Bluefin was acquired by Twitter in 2013, Twitter’s largest acquisition of the time. From 2013-2017 Roy served as Twitter’s Chief Media Scientist.
