Story of data – Aug 8, 2021

Hope you are having a great weekend. Once again, beginning this edition of our newsletter with a spot of humor 😊

What a week it has been! Neeraj Chopra struck gold for India in the Tokyo Olympics and the cheerful news broke the internet.

A data-backed approach to sports is something we wrote about at length earlier and as I write this newsletter I can only imagine how AI will shape the future of sports in India, particularly when it comes to competitive sports.

In news, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the first Artificial Intelligence-powered grievance management app by the government which has been developed by the Defence Ministry in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur. The AI tool for this grievance redressal system deciphers the content of the grievance on this basis of its contents. It then categorizes the grievances under various categories and even assesses if the grievance was adequately handled by the concerned office. This app will empower the government to handle the extremely large volume of complaints in an organized manner and will go a long way in improving the grievance redressal system. Possibly, we shall see many more such apps across government sectors in the future.

In another epic use of AI, Roger restaurant in The Ameswell Hotel in Silicon Valley (both a homage to the NASA Ames Research Center just nearby) have started using Servi, a self-driving, indoor robot server. The robots were first set free to map the entire restaurant area and then were given their stationary places or what is known as home base. The robots stand with bins in which human servers dump dirty serve ware which is sent to the pit with the press of a button, and unloaded by the dishwasher, and then the robot returns to the home base.

This week we at IA, bring you an excellent post about how to spot bots. If you've been in an endless loop of conversations with a Chabot or have encountered one on the social media platforms, this blog post is for you to help identify them better. The other post this week speaks about weight loss, a constant irritant for some and how AI will help you make a breakthrough in your weight loss attempts in the near future.

The Story of Us!

When Puru and I (and our other team mates) won the award for the best class project in the Linked Data Ventures class, we got inspired to convert this from a class project into a startup. Our class project was called “Schmooze Butler ©”, because by removing data silos, we were allowing people to network (schmooze) better. Schmooze Butler was a semi finalist in the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition, and was also a part of the inaugural Founders Skills Accelerator (FSA, now Delta V) at MIT.

The accelerator put us through the rigor of what it actually takes to set up and run a business from t=0. While Schmooze Butler was a great name, we realized that the cutting edge AI and data science that we were embarking on, it was barely doing justice to it. On bus ride to NY to speak with some potential clients, the name “Infinite Analytics” came to us. Infinite – because of the infinite number of data sources and data sets our platform “Sherlock” can work with – but also because the origins were at MIT and nothing symbolizes MIT more than the “Infinite Corridor” which connects every building on the MIT campus (a lot of times underground).

While at FSA, we also reached out to Erik Brynjolfsson, then the Director of the MIT Center for Digital Business (and the foremost name when it comes to AI & Data Science). He has been an advisor (IA’s first advisor) and a big champion of ours, ever since. Thank you Erik.

As always, we look forward to your messages. Do write to us to at contactus@infiniteanalytics.com to know how we can help your business.

Video editing and film-making

If you have ever been in the business of video editing, especially when a famous celebrity was involved, and no matter how much you try to salvage the video, you cannot; deepfakes will help with that clip and your video will be made uninterrupted. Earlier, movie directors would spend millions on creating the perfect location for their movies. This is now achievable with a far lesser sum using deepfake and AI. Deepfakes can be real game-changers in film-making. Imagine new movies starring Charlie Chaplin opening to full houses. This, ofcourse, after all the copyright issues are taken into consideration..

It’s most obvious in the digital media space, from click buys to personalized web experiences. For marketing, the AI journey has just kick-started, while in the tech sector it has been applied for a while now. We are still at an early stage where inroads are being made into AI content via chatbots and even some explanatory content creation but what will make anyone jump up and embrace it is when we will start seeing a lot of mainstream content being created by AI.
